KNBS to ditch manual for digital in 2019 census

Mombasa,KENYA:The Kenya national bureau of statistics has announced that it will use digital technologies to conduct the census 2019.

Data entry forms used by enumerators are soon set to be replaced by smart phones where enumerators will be expected to Key in the data.

This announcement was made by Antony Mureu who was speaking on behalf of the Treasury PS Dr.Kamau Thugge at the African statistics day celebrations in Mombasa.

Mureu said the digital system would minimize on errors in the process so as to help in efficient planning by the treasury.

“That computer aided tool is designed in a manner that if you key in the wrong data, it automatically rejects it” Mureu said.

Mureu also said they had started preparations for the 2019 exercise by mapping of areas among other processes.

Kenya becomes the among the first few African countries to Integrate digital technologies in conduction of a census.

Ethiopia was also expected to use digital technology in the now postponed 2017 census.

The African statistics day is celebrated every 18th of November,
