Third Kwale road accident in a week  injures five

Kwale,KENYA:Five people sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred at Ng’ombeni, Kwale county along the Likoni LungaLunga highway.

Eye witnesses told Baraka FM that the accident occurred on Thursday at 10.00 am.

Confirming the incident, Matuga OCPD Japhet Kibuga said the accident involved a Peugeot and a Probox.

Kibuga said the Peugeot driver crossed his lane and collided head on with the pro box.

“The Peugeot headed to Ukunda from Mombasa and the Pro box to Mombasa from Ukunda when they collided and five people sustained serious injuries,” said Kibuga.

He said three passengers from the Peugeot and two from the probox were badly injured.

“The victims are at Diani hospital receiving treatment, so far we haven’t received any reports concerning their current condition,” he added.

Three road accidents have been witnessed along the likoni LungaLunga highway this week claiming one live and injuring more than 7.

On Tuesday morning, a man burnt beyond recognition when a probox he was transporting charcoal in exploded after being knocked by a lorry at check point area in Matuga Kwale county.

Later that evening, three vehicles were involved in a road accident along Diani area of Kwale leaving four people seriously injured.

This being a third accident, residents have blamed Probox drivers of carelessness saying its the reason why the car is mostly involved in accidents.

Resident have pointed fingers at probox drivers accusing them of overspeeding when driving along the highway.
