Nairobi,KENYA:The death toll from the Saturday fire at Moi girls Nairobi has risen to 19
This is according to the Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i who said two of the 10 girls who had been admitted at various city hospitals later succumbed to their injuries.
Addressing the press in Nairobi on Monday, Matiang’i has also confirmed that the fire at the Moi girls high school Nairobi was caused by Arson.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi, Matiang’i said the fire which left 7 students dead and more than 10 injured had been caused by arson and investigations were still being carried out.
Other sources at the school point to a girl in the school who wanted a transfer to another school.
According to the students, fire started at the particular girl’s bed and a few weeks prior, the girl had warned that a fire might gut down the school.
On Sartuday, Matiangi ordered the school closed down for two week to allow for investigations to be carried.
However the school management have remained tight lipped on the exact cause of the fire.
