Gunmen shoot Mombasa M-pesa businessman


Mombasa,KENYA:A businessman was shot and seriously wounded in the stomach in an armed robbery incident in Mikoroshoni area Bamburi, Mombasa.

Two gunmen riding on a motorcycle ambushed Joshua Muendo, 40, who operates a number of M-pesa as he was heading home with his wife, Police said.

The suspects made away with 26,000 shillings in cash from the businessman in the 11pm Wednesday incident.

His wife Eunice Mueni escaped unhurt, according to police.

Kisauni police boss Christopher Rotich said two gunmen accosted the couple a few meters from their business premises after closing shop.

He said the two armed gang later escaped on their motorcycle.

The businessman was rushed to coast general hospital, and police said he was responding well to treatment.

Police now believe the suspects are part of armed gun men terrorizing residents in kisauni.

“We suspect they are same people who recently shot and killed a businessman in Bamburi,”said police boss.

He said a manhunt has been launched to arrest the suspects, adding that they are armed and dangerous.

He call on the public to volunteer information which will lead to arrest of the suspects
