ODM Mombasa aspirants irritated after party postpones primaries

Mombasa,KENYA:ODM party Mombasa County aspirants were on Friday left angry after the party postponed to April, 29 the repeat of its primaries that had been planned to take place April, 28 citing irregularities in ballot paper names.

”There is a mix up in the names on the ballot papers hence the calling off of the exercise by the NEB Commissioner in charge of the exercise Mr. Edward Nyale,”

”The exercise has been pushed to tomorrow Saturday 29th April 2017 as result. The NEB regrets the inconvenience caused to aspirants and members,” read a statement sent to media by ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale.

Speaking to Baraka FM, Mombasa Member of County Assembly Airport Ward hopeful Mary Akinyi expressed her discontentment with the development terming it a waste of time and resources.

”I’m disappointed with the decision my party has taken, all those days they were aware the exercise was to be carried today only to inform us at the last minute of its cancellation,”  said dissatisfied Akinyi.

The repeat exercise was scheduled for 19 polling stations in six wards in the Coastal region, the hotly contested Nyali constituency inclusive with former Journalist Mohammed Ali battling Said ‘Saido’ Abdallah for the ticket.

The rerun was reached at following chaos that erupted in some polling stations with aspirants protesting the nominations results claiming the exercise was impaired with riggings.

Some of the wards affected by the disarray included Bokole Nursery, Mwidani Social Hall, Al-Irshadi Nursery, Kiembeni Baptist, Mtopanga Primary, Concordia Primary, Nasa Junior Academy, Greenfields Academy, IFC Church and Mishomoroni Junior Mwandoni Play.
