Couple sentenced to 7 years in prison for being in possession of explosives

Mombasa, KENYA: A couple was on Wednesday sentenced to  seven years in prison by a Mombasa court after they were found guilty of being in possession of explosives.

Hassan Jilo Bwanamaka and Mwanasita Shee were found to be in possession of three grenades without legal authority in their house, located in Likoni Mombasa County in 2014.

Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Ruguru said the evidence in court was sufficient enough to convict the couple.

The court also acquitted them four other charges that they were facing, for lack of evidence.

They were accused of being members of the outlawed Mombasa Republican council.

They also faced another charge of being in possession of 305 fake papers that were allegedly being used to make sh. 1000 notes.

The couple was also was charged with being in possession of incitement letters, that sought to provoke violence in the country.
