Mark your calendars, Mombasa plans an Arts and Culture week

Mombasa, KENYA: Fashion and arts lovers should clear their April calendar as Mombasa County is planning to a week-long celebration of art and culture from the 13th to 19th April next year, in a festival dubbed ‘Colours of The Coast Art and Culture Festival’.

The event, which is a partnership between the county and Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industries Mombasa, will feature several activities including cultural parade, cultural show, fashion show, sand sculpturing, stage performances, competitions and awards.

Speaking at a press conference in Mombasa on Monday, Chamber of Commerce chair, Rukia Rashid, said the event will feature both local and international artists and participants.

“The festival events and activities will take place in various locations in Mombasa and shall be performed by local and international artists and participants,” said Rukia.

The festival which will be held for the first time in Mombasa, shall hold more than 30 events of educational, fun filled and hands on activities for everyone.

“The awards will include; best youngest artist, High School Art, Gallery, Performance, Fashion Designer, Most Innovative Artist, Student Film, Short Film, Animation Film, Documentary Film, Cultural Film, Featured Film, Installation, Public Choice and Artist,” said Intisar Mohammed, Organiser of the Colours of the Coast festival.

Instisar also noted that events like the festival will help in boosting the county economically.
