Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has called on stakeholders in the sector to develop short tour packages for passengers on transit in the country.
Speaking during the Coast Circuit Stakeholders Forum in Mombasa, CS Miano said that with the introduction of transit visas, travel traders should curate and package short tours for passengers in transit.
“Tourism is one of the biggest earners of Kenya’s foreign currency. The tourism ministry remains focused on significantly increasing the number of tourists visiting or transiting to other destinations as they sample our rich culture,” said CS Rebecca Miano.
Miano also said the ministry intends to engage young people in the tourism sector by launching a youth center. She said the youth engagement will include a photography competition.
“Our Magical Kenya ‘Tembea Kenya‘ campaign is a clarion call to all Kenyans and our esteemed visitors to discover the unique attractions in this beautiful country,” said the CS.
Meanwhile, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) CEO June Chepkemei said “The global tourism trends point to festivals and sporting events as key attractions for visitors. We are going to curate these events including positioning Kenya as a wedding destination.”
