Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano on Thursday launched the Coast Tourism Circuit campaign that will showcase the region’s full richness and diversity.

In the event attended by tourism sector stakeholders from the coast region, CS Miano said the coastal region was a crucial player in Kenya’s heritage, beauty, and diversity.

She said that the circuit will aid in exploring the ministry’s next strategies in the tourism sector.

“This exciting regional circuit is particularly endowed with magnificent coral reefs alongside our vast beaches which offer endless plenty of ocean-based tourism. The vibrant marine life supported by the coral reefs attracts diving and snorkeling fanatics from around the globe, placing Kenya firmly on the map as a destination for marine adventures,” said CS Rebecca Miano.

The Tourism CS added that the ministry was looking to fully revive sports tourism taking note of the golf courses in the region.

“We are particularly proud of the Vipingo Ridge, which hosts the prestigious Magical Kenya Ladies Open as part of the Ladies European Tour. This event beautifully merges sports and tourism giving memorable experiences for golf enthusiasts and showcasing our world-class facilities,” said CS Miano.

Speaking during the Coast Circuit Stakeholders Forum organized by Tembea Kenya, stakeholders raised issues including the harmonization of regulations to streamline hotel operations and rehabilitation and management of tourist sites.

The stakeholders also called for open skies.

“I’m thrilled by the pool of innovative ideas shared by our sector players giving tourism a promise of the future. We embrace such partnerships as we applaud Mombasa County for collaborating with the private sector and travel trade stakeholders which has continually placed the region as a pearl of tourism,” said Miano.

Miano noted that the coastal region county governments are in top gear in their efforts to develop experiences and products with global allure.

“The beach management Bill before the County Assembly of Mombasa will go a long way in bolstering initiatives to improve the beach experience along the coastal shoreline,” said the Tourism CS.
