Tana River,KENYA:A family in Lenda village in Galole , Tana River is mourning the loss of one of their children in an incident where two others went missing when crossing river Tana on Friday.
According to the Galole OCPD Sylvester Githungo the family was crossing river Tana from their farm across the river on Friday evening when their canoe capsized after it was hit by a hippo.
The child died immediately while the other two were allegedly swept away by the overflowing water.
According to Githungo officers were deployed to the scene to try rescue the two missing children
River Tana which has a huge population of hippos and crocodiles has been a hotspot of human, crocodile and hippo conflicts.
A similar incident happened in the year 2015 at Chewani in Galole where three men went missing after their vessel capsized after it was hit by a hippopotamus.
By the time of going to press the two children had not yet been found.
