One dead and five police officers missing following attack in Lamu

Mombasa,KENYA:A woman has died and four police officers nursing serious injuries after suspected  Alshabaab militants ambushed their convoy escort at Nyangoro area in Witu Lamu county.

Five police officers are missing and efforts to trace them are ubderway,police sourcers said.

Police sources said the injured officers sustained injuries in various parts of their bodies.

The  deceased  was in a police vehicle and  was found dead at the scene,according to the sources.

The Alshabbab terrorists numbering  close to 30 also burnt two motor vehicles belonging to officers inthe 10:30 am incident.

The vehicles burnt are GKB 323R belonging to administration police in Lamu county and another one GKB 766g belonging to  the Kenya police service Lamu county.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of interior Coordination of national government spokesperson Mwenda Njoka  ,the attack happened in Nyongoro area between Gamba and Lango la Simba when the suspected militants ambushed a security team that was escorting passenger buses.

Police sources said the two vehicles had nine occupants including the driver.

A contingent of security personell are combing the area to recover any injured officers.
