Nairobi, KENYA: The unfolding events of Mau evictions by the government has generated heat in the Jubilee camp prompting Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot demand that Cabinet Secretary without a portfolio also Jubilee sec general Raphael Tuju apologize over the matter.
In a press briefing at parliamentary buildings on Monday,Cheruiyot condemned Tuju over remarks he made telling off leaders who are complaining about the way the government is handling the matter whereby the leaders accused its officers of employing brutality during the execution of the matter.
Cheruiyot accused Tuju of being insensitive against what he termed as tribulations Mau residents are faced during the exercise demanding that he must apologize over his assertion.
“Hon Raphael Tuju I urge you to take the earliest opportunity to apologize to the residents of Mau Narok, whose rights have been violated,” Cheruiyot said.
He insisted that Tuju is playing politics with the whole issue indicating that some residents whose properties were allegedly destroyed by the government officials were living way off the cutline.
The senator pointed that leaders from the area are supporting the government ‘s initiative to shield water towers but they are uncomfortable in the manner the government is handling the matter.
He further indicated that the exercise has affected close to 4,000 school children who remain at home after evictions.
He now wants police officers who might have violated the law and human rights be brought to account in a bid to uphold justice for the victims.
“The officers who meted out these heinous acts on the innocent women and children of Mau Narok must be brought to account. Police brutality can never be condoned.”He said.
