Kilifi,KENYA:A man in Chumani village Kilifi County on Saturday shocked many after he was caught taking selfies with a bleeding corpse.
The corpse was that of an elderly man who had been stoned by an irate mob on suspicions of participating in a black magic oath taking ceremony.
According to the Chumani assistant Chief Lawrence Maitha, angry villagers had descended on the 70-year-old man when he alighted from the vehicle stoning him to death.
“The deceased had traveled to Kinango and while he was away, word went round the village that he had gone to take a black magic oath so when he alighted from the vehicle, the mob followed him to his compound and descended on him stoning him to death,” Lawrence told Baraka FM on phone.
Lawrence added that when police were called to pick up the body of the deceased, they found the man identified as Ras taking selfies with the corpse.
The motive of the selfies is not yet known
However, the assistant Chief told Baraka FM that the police were suspecting that the deceased’s family was aware of the plan to stone their kin as policemen who had gone to pick the remains of the deceased found the family feasting on a lunchtime meal seemingly less bothered about the incident.
“The family of the deceased did not inform us about the incident and when we arrived we found them feasting on a meal while the bleeding corpse was lying in the compound,” Lawrence added.

The chief criticized the incident and warned villagers against taking the law into their own hands.
The Kilifi county police commander Fredrick Ochieng confirmed the incident saying the body of the deceased was being preserved at the Kilifi County Referral Hospital as investigations into the incident were ongoing.
Incidents of elderly men being stoned to death in Kilifi are not rare.
Last month, a family was forced to flee their village after their 70-year-old father was hacked by villagers on suspicions of being behind the death of the sister.
The irate villagers who had just buried the sister set the families houses on fire forcing them to flee the village fearing for their lives.
