Tana River, KENYA: Two died and several others were injured on Friday in an accident that occurred at Buto Banta along Garisa – Nairobi highway.

Speaking to Baraka FM, Bura OCPD Mr. Tom Okot said the two died on the spot when a bus from Earth Plane Company had a tire burst before rolling.

The bus  that had thirty passengers was heading to Nairobi from Garisa town on Thursday evening.

According to the OCPD, the injured passengers were rushed to Garissa hospital and other health institutions nearby for emergency treatment services.

Mr. Okot said that Garissa Hospital at the moment could not preserve dead bodies in its mortuary and that they had contacted the next of keen to the dead to make arrangements before the bodies decompose.

“The next of keen have been contacted to make arrangements for their bodies because the mortuary they’re taken to lacks ice,” OCPD said.

The OCPD though suspecting tire burst to be the cause of the accident, said they are investigating the matter to determine the exact cause.

He added that the injured people were getting better.

“We have sent our officers to the Garissa hospital and I can say that they are all getting better,” Mr. Okot added.

The Buto Banta area has been a black spot as most accidents have been reported to have occurred and lives lost.

This has occurred some months after another accident which cost lives of ten people, six people were seriously injured and other twenty-four survived in the Buto Banta near Bangale in Tana North sub-county of Tana River.

The accident involved a bus from Wajir and a lorry which was carrying building materials from Nairobi when they had a head-on collision.

Also, another different accident in which seven family members lost their lives, living behind a child who survived the accident when the pro-box they were traveling in came into head-on collision with a canter carrying building materials.
