Five gubernatorial aspirants cleared to run in Lamu

Lamu, KENYA: All the five gubernatorial aspirants in Lamu County have been cleared and handed their certificates by the IEBC.

The incumbent Issa Timamy of ANC,his big time rival Fahim Twaha of Jubilee and Abdalla Fadhil of ODM were cleared on Thursday while Swaleh Imu of Wiper Party was cleared on early Friday morning.

PNU’s Eliud Kinuthia faced a setback on Thursday when he was sent away after it was established that his running mate James Matole,only had a completion letter from the university and not a valid degree as required and was given up to Friday 4pm.

He was however cleared on Friday morning after the presented the degree to the IEBC.

A total of seven senator aspirants,6 MP aspirants, five women reps and over 50 MCA aspirants have been cleared to vie in the August 8 general elections.

The Lamu gubernatorial race is seen many many as a three horse race with main battle being between governor Issa Timamy,Fahim Twaha and Eliud Kinuthia.

It’s a tough battle for the incumbent as he seeks to retain his seat with critics predicting heavy competition from Jubilee’s Twaha and PNU’s Kinuthia.

Timamy has Eric Mugo as a running mate while Fahim chose Abdulhakim Aboud.

ODM’s Abdalla Fadhil went for Mwenye Ali while Eliud Kinuthia chose ICT graduate James Matole for running mate.

Wiper’s Swaleh Imu is the latest candidate with a female for a running mate Maryam Jeneby.
