Tana River, KENYA: Two people have been arrested in Galole Tana River County after allegedly trying to use dubious ways to find their way into Kenya Defense Forces Recruitment.

Speaking to the  press at Hola stadium where the exercise was held on Thursday, senior recruitment officer lieutenant col. Kyalo Munyao, said one suspect used forged academic documents while the other attempted to entice the recruitment officers to take a bribe.

The suspect who attempted to entice the recruiters, had allegedly written on his leg the amount of money (sh.100,000) severally, which according to the recruiters was an attempt of bribery.

“We just had two cases, one is a case of fraud where one recruit had a forged document and the other was trying to entice the recruitment officer but we have arrested one and brought him to police officers while we are waiting for the other to be taken to police station, this is a corruption free zone and I briefed them that anybody who will try going against we will get you out,” he said.

Mr. Munyao added that the recruitment was done according to divisions to make sure every community was involved in the exercise.

He affirmed that the exercise normally targets the marginalized communities like Boni and others that are hardly represented in the defense force.

According to Munyao, the recruitment that took place on Thursday in Galole sub county was not targeting ladies this time round; it targeted men only in order to have gender balance.

He added that the KDF exercise only targeted recruits for Kenya Army and Air Force in the region and that they were not given any proposal for the department of Kenya Navy this season.
