Nairobi,KENYA:Kilifi governor Amason Kingi has defended the county government’s move to award a tender to one of the 11 controversial companies tasked with supplying special goods to the county.
Speaking when he appeared before senate public accounts and investment committee on Thursday Kingi insisted that out of 11 prequalified companies for the tender, one of them was awarded the tender .
But on the other hand, auditors said that a company which they didn’t disclose which was not among the 11 companies was awarded the tender downplaying the county’s assertion.
Kingi insisted that due process was followed in tendering and reaffirmed to table evidence on the same.
The committee urged both parties to commit their documents before it to enable it ascertain the truth of the matter.
“The county says the tender was awarded to one of the 11 ,the auditors says the tender was awarded to a company outside 11 .”Prof Lonyangapuo the senator for West Pokot said.
Kingi appeared before the committee to answer queries on how the county spent billions of shillings in the 2014/15 financial year.
He is expected to appear again on the 19th of this month .
