DPP withdraws charges against US ex-FBI

Mombasa,KENYA:The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Kariako Tobiko on Tuesday withdrew illegal gun possession charges against the former US bureau of investigation (FBI) agent.

In a reference letter presented in a Mombasa court from the DPP office, his deputy Mr. Jacob Ondari directed the case be withdrawn under section 87(a) of criminal procedure code.

“I have noted that there is no sound independent evidence connecting the items, collected to Richardson Cylder Roller, the trial should be withdrawn” reads the letter in part.

Mr.Ondari also directed further investigations be conducted against the suspect before being charged.

Mr.Cylder was arreigned in court alongside his Kenyan born wife Mercy Mwendwa on March 2016, with illegal possession of two firearms.

The two were arrested at their home on 19th March 2016, Nyali in Mombasa County.

Ms Mwendwa was however acquitted, but her husband was released on a cash bail of Sh.500, 000.
