Kilifi, KENYA: Kilifi county Governor Amason Kingi has been given a seven days ultimatum to make public the local revenue collected by the county government or face court charges.
Kilifi North Member of Parliament Gideon Mungaro said on Thursday that the county has been collecting a lot of money from the locals but the county government has not been able to account for it.
Speaking at Juwaba hall in Kilifi North during a Jubilee party aspirants’ meeting, Mung’aro said should the governor not come out clear on the public funds he would take him court.
“I have heard a cry from the governor of this (Kilifi) County that the national government has failed in its administration especially on development projects which is a total lie,” said Mung’aro.
“First and foremost I want him (governor Kingi) to come out clear and tell the public how much the county government has been collecting from the people of Kilifi or else we take him to court should he not do that in seven days,” said Mung’aro.
According to Mung’aro, the current local revenue collected is very little compared to what used to be collected during County councils.
He says the revenue has dropped to almost half of the total revenue collection.
“What we are seeing from this Kingi’s government is total corruption and nothing else,” added Mung’aro.
“During the county councils Kilifi used to collect almost double of the current collection yet the governor is just looking at it cheaply and lamenting,” said Mung’aro.
However, Kilifi governor Amason Kingi insisted that the national government has been getting involved in County projects because it has nothing to show to the people of Kilifi.
He said he is not willing to allow the national government to invade his projects and launch them.
“I am already told that the president will be hear soon to launch our county government Amphitheater hall.
Does it mean we built it and we were unable to launch it? No way. If he wants to launch it, I assure you that he will launch it from outside because I will not give him the keys,” said Kingi.
