Kilifi County Speaker Teddy Mwambire says plans are under way to revive the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani economic bloc.

This, he says, will attract both domestic and foreign investors to the county.

“We are in the process of reviving the JKP in order to attract investors in Kilifi. This I believe shall play a critical role in scaling up the economy of the county,” he said.

Mwambire noted that once revived the bloc will attract investors and scale up not only the economy of the county, but the entire Coastal region.

“We must add value to some of our products including the coconut tree, which is one of the most useful crops in Kilifi County,” noted Mwambire.

He cited the coconut sector as one of the sectors that required value addition saying that it had not been fully exploited.

He noted that talks are at an advanced stage to ensure that the coconut tree benefits Kilifi county locals.

On the issue of pending bills, the speaker pointed out that only genuine bills will be paid.

The former Ganze Member of Parliament noted that some of the pending bills were illegally acquired.

“Some people are taking advantage of the new administration. We must critically look into those bills before they are dully paid. Some were acquired illegally,” he said.
