There was drama in Kinango, Kwale County after three men were arrested with an endangered pangolin.
The three, Pas Mwiti, 30, Kab were Tembe, 26, and Salim Nduria, 22, who were in possession of the male pangolin, were arrested following a tip-off from members of the public.
“Posing as well oiled businessmen engaged in the illicit trade of the world’s most endangered mammal, the sleuths lured the sellers from their hideout before pouncing on them and rescuing the animal,” said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
The DCI said two of the suspects attempted to set the animal free before trying to flee.
“This prompted the detectives to chase after the scary mammal with a full armour of scales and the two men, leaving a thick cloud of dust,” said the DCI.
The suspects were restrained and transferred to Nairobi along with the pangolin.
According to the DCI, the suspects are being interrogated further to reveal their financiers.
Meanwhile, the pangolin, said to cost around four million shillings in the black market, was handed over to the Kenya Wildlife Service personnel at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage.
