The voting exercise had a delayed start in several polling stations in Mvita Constituency, Mombasa County.

While the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission said that the voting exercise will commence at 6:00am, voters have had to wait in several polling stations.

The exercise is yet to kick off at Tononoka Social hall, Uhuru garden and Mvita Primary among other areas.

IEBC officials are yet to arrive at the said polling stations.

“We were told that the stations will be opened at 6am, but until now nothing. There are no IEBC officials to come explain to us what is happening,” complained one of the voters.

Meanwhile, the exercise had a delayed start at Shika Adabu in Likoni due to KIEMS network issues.

Shika Adabu Presiding Officer Faith Mwende who had to restart the machines several times, said the KIEMS machines were not connecting to the network hence the delay in start of the voting exercise.

“We were supposed to commence by 6am but we came from the tallying center very late due to issues of sorting the ballot papers,” she said.

“We had to start the KIEMS, you cannot allow voters to come when the KIEMS are not yet okay,” she added.

She has, however, assured voters that the process will not be affected by the delay.

“We will add them time during closing hours, we will extend closing time,” said the Presiding Officer.

In Likoni’s Check Point area, voting already started.
