Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has assured Coast residents of heightened security during and after elections.

Speaking on Wednesday in Mombasa while opening a regional Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Coast headquarters, Matiang’i said that the coastal region is among areas where security will be strengthened during and after elections.

He also warned politicians and individuals who have plans to wreak havoc during the election process of dire consequence.

“I have asked Mr.Karuri {the regional police commander} to act decisively and expeditiously on any one of those individuals  who may make any effort or may be tempted to have groups regardless of their status in this society,” he said.

The CS said special additional security resources will be allocated to backup the work and planning of the security in the region starting next week.

He singled out two counties in Coast region in danger of experiencing election violence but assured citizens of their safety.

“Nothing is going to happen to you since we are ready to face any attempt of causing any chaos,” he stated.
