Police on Sunday arrested a suspected Al-Shabaab militia and recovered a cache of weapons.
The suspect was arrested by General Service Unit (GSU) personnel in Milimani area within Lamu County.
According to the National Police Service the arrest happened following an intelligence-led operation to flush out remnants of Al-Shabaab militants hiding in Boni forest.
“The suspect is reportedly part of a group of other militants believed to have staged a foiled attack on an NPS camp recently. He had a visible suspected-gun-inflicted wound on the left leg above the ankle allegedly sustained in the previous foiled attack,” said the police.
During his arrest, police recovered 1 RPG launcher, 1 RPG heat warhead, 1 booster, and 2 booster housing.
“The suspect has since been placed in custody as security teams are out to pursue his accomplices believed to be holed up in the Boni forest,” said the police.
Meanwhile, police on Monday recovered military fatigue from a house in Nakuru County’s Pangani area.
The recoveries included 2 military cap peaks, 3 jungle shirts, 1 pair of jungle trouser, 2 jungle carrier bags, 1 webbing (58) straps and 4 pouch straps. Additionally, the team recovered 1 ground sheet, 4 ground sheet carriers, side pouches among other items.
“The scene was processed by our crime scene personnel in the presence of a team of military police officers from KDF Lanet. Investigations into the haul has since been launched,” said the police.
