The county government of Mombasa has come under harsh criticism amid claims of embezzlement of public funds.
Bamburi ward candidate of the UPYA party, Caleb Okumu Ngwena, has accused the County government of failing to serve the people.
Caleb, while addressing residents of Kiembeni in Bamburi ward, said the county government has been collecting millions of shillings in taxes and receiving annual allocations from the national government’s equitable share of revenue but it’s services to the people are poor.
Caleb, a human rights activist, claims the county government collects sh.6m in a day at the Kongowea market yet the county still struggles to pay health care workers.
He has promised to make a difference in the county legislature if he is elected as Bamburi MCA.
Meanwhile, Caleb lashed out at his predecessors, saying they made no progress in the ward.
He says despite ten years since devolution, Bamburi Ward has nothing to be proud of.
He urged Bamburi residents to evaluate candidates and their vision for the residents and not the party they are under.
“Bamburi ward has had 2 MCA’s in 10 years yet they have done nothing for the people,” said Caleb.
However, he has called for peaceful campaigns during the electioneering period and asked fellow candidates to sell their agenda and let the people decide.
