Mombasa senator aspirant Mohammed Amir has been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission –IEBC-to vie in the August 2022 polls.

Amir, who will vie as independent candidate, received his certificate at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Kenya School of Government grounds in Mombasa County.

Speaking to reporters after getting the nod, Amir urged Mombasa voters to choose leaders wisely.

He further cautioned residents against voting the current senator Mohammed Faki whom he said has failed in his oversight duties.

‘We no longer have port operations in Mombasa yet we have a senator. Where was he when the county needed him most?, he posed.

According to Amir, Mombasa residents should not allow to be deceived by leaders who failed to fulfill their mandate despite being in office for five years.

‘The current senator doesn’t understand his roles which is largely representation and oversight. How come he has never questioned how Mombasa County is run?, he added.

Amir also urged residents to vote for him in August, saying he will fulfill all pledges he makes in his campaign.

‘ If i get elected, i will ensure people are held accountable and also ensure those who loot public property are punished’ he added.
