Kilifi county Senatorial race aspirant Caroline Chilango has rubbished claims that she has withdrawn her candidature.

Through her press statement, Chilango has rubbished the claims terming them as pure propaganda from her political opponent.

“I have not at any one point stepped down or at all thought of stepping down from the Senatorial race,” read part of her statement.

Chilango insists she is still in the race to ensure Kilifi residents enjoy the fruits of devolution.

“I reiterate that I am ready to serve the people of Kilifi county as a Senator in order to carry out effective oversight that will bring fruitful devolution, legislate in priority areas and safeguard devolution in Kilifi county and the entire republic of Kenya.” She said.

Chilango, an advocate, has gone further and advised her opponent to sell his agenda to the electorate instead of engaging in diversionary and petty politics.

She has also rubbished assertions that the said opponent is gaining popularity through participation in community Harambees and funerals.

Chilango who is vying on a UDA party ticket has hinted at taking action towards her opponent engaging in the community Harambe’s and funerals.

“From the 9th December 2021 fundraising by aspirants was outlawed. On the basis of this, I intend to take appropriate action arising from this. I also wish to note that popularity of a candidate does not arise from engaging in burial campaign strategies but engaging the masses appropriately in sober and noble forums.” She said.

However, Chilango has criticized the incumbent Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo for failing in his Mandate of effective oversight of the county government.

She terms this as the reason why Kilifi county still lags behind in development.

“Our perennial problems are still with us the tenth year down the line after devolution.” Read part of her statement.

This comes days following reports on blogs and social media that she had withdrawn her candidature from the senatorial race and instead has decided to vie for the women representative seat in Kilifi county.
