Motorists using the Makupa causeway should expect traffic from Saturday 10th July 2021.

According to the Kenya Nationals Highways Authority (KeNHA), construction works on Makupa Bridge and approach roads along the causeway.

“KeNHA wishes to notify the general public that the island-bound carriageway on the causeway shall be closed off effective July 10, 2021and all affected traffic diverted to the Nairobi bound carriageway which will then serve as the way in and out of Mombasa until all the works are completed,” said KeNHA.

The construction works are being undertaken by M/S China Communications Construction Company LTD (CCCC) and are due for completion on or before January 4th, 2022.

“We urge all motorists to follow the signage and guidance provided by the traffic police and marshalls available to enable smooth traffic flow along the causeway,” said KeNHA.

“We apologize for any inconveniences caused as we endeavor to improve the infrastructure along this critical link on our road networks,” the Authority added.

Construction of the 457m long Makupa Bridge was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta in December 2020.
