Kilifi has kicked off the COVID-19 vaccination exercise in the county.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi launched the exercise on Monday after receiving 4,500 jabs of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the Ministry of Health.

Governor Kingi said the exercise will go a long way in bolstering the county’s efforts towards fighting the pandemic.

“We are targeting to vaccinate our front line health workers, teachers and security officers who are the main players in fighting this common enemy,” said Governor Kingi.

Kingi also said the county has trained enough vaccinators who will be deployed to various vaccination centers.

“While we continue to encourage our front line health workers to voluntarily take part in the exercise, I would like to assure them of its safety as the vaccines have been tested and approved by World Health Organization (WHO) as well as our very own Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI),” said Kingi.
