Kenya International Industrial Expo to go on as planned amid COVID-19 pandemic

This year’s Kenya International Industrial Expo will go on amid the COVID-19 crisis, following mechanisms that have been employed by the organizers to see the expo through.

At a prèss conference in Nairobi, Afripeak expo Kenya Limited Managing Director Gao Wei said that the expo will go on smoothly as they will intertwine virtual and physical meetings to see the course through.

The expo is scheduled for November 26th to 28th at the Sarit Centre in Nairobi.

Wei said that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition has attracted more foreign exhibitors with exhibition space increasing from 300 to 400 meters squared.

The standard shell schemes increased from 83 to 105 and foreign exhibitor’s quantity increased from 81 last year to 93 this year.

The exhibition will encompass not only local exhibitors but also over 50 exhibitors from Shandong China.

Wei pointed that although the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted negatively on economies across the globe, Kenya’s economy has maneuvered by a 1.5 percent increment.

“Despite COVID 19 pandemic having a negative impact on most economies, Kenya this year still emerged as a resilient economy towards the impact to record a growth of  1.5 percent according to latest World Bank Kenya economic update,” Gao said.

In the upcoming Expo, Afripeak Ltd will partner with Kenya investment Authority and Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI).

Meanwhile, Kenya Investment Authority Director, Moses Ikiara, said the exhibition is timely following the fact that the country is scaling up its manufacturing sector.

“Manufacturing which is one of the anchored pillars seeks to industrialize Kenya. It is in this background that Kenya International Industrial expo plans to link local enterprises to Chinese counterparts,” Ikiara said.

Also, Vice President of KNCCI Erick Rutto said that the expo is an interface between prime-pandemic and post-pandemic economic recovery which will be realized through the exhibition and joint ventures between local investors and Chinese manufacturers.
