Kilifi records 46 new COVID-19 infections as 8 more succumb

602 more people tested positive for COVID-19 raising the national infection toll to 43,143.

According to the Ministry of Health, the 602 new cases were from a sample of 5,618 tested in the last 24 hours.

“Our cumulative tests are now 607,241. From the cases, 585are Kenyans and 17 are foreigners. 407 are males and 195 females. The youngest is a one-year old child while the oldest is 93,” read a statement from the Ministry.

The Coastal region recorded 91 cases; 46 from Kilifi, 44 Mombasa and one in Lamu County.

In Kilifi, the 46 cases are from Malindi (27), Rabai (8), Magarini (5), Kilifi North (4) and Kilifi South (2).

Nairobi recorded the highest new infections with 133 cases followed by Nakuru then Uasin Gishu.

80 people have recovered from the disease, 51 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 29 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 31,508.

“Sadly, 8 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 805. Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones,” said MoH.
