COVID-19 update: 136 test positive, 99 recover and five more die

136 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 bringing the total national infections to 35,020.

The new cases were from a sample size of 3,707 tested in the last 24 hours.

“Our cumulative tests now stand at 471,384. From the cases, 124 are Kenyans while 12 are foreigners. In terms of gender, 85 are males and 51 females. The youngest is an eight-month old infant, while the oldest is 75,” said the Ministry of Health.

Mombasa recorded the second highest number of infections after Nairobi, with the whole of coast region recording 32 cases.

Distribution of cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 35, Mombasa 25, Kajiado 11, Turkana 9, Kisumu 9, Migori 8, Nyandarua 7, Kilifi 7, Embu 6, Uasin Gishu 4, Busia 3, Kisii 3, Baringo 2, Kakamega 2, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Tharaka Nithi 1, Kiambu 1, Kitui 1and Trans Nzoia 1.

The Mombasa cases are in Changamwe (13), Mvita (8) and Jomvu (4).

According to the Ministry, 99 others recovered from the disease to raise national COVID-19 recoveries to 21,158.

Out of the new recoveries, 64 were from the home-based care program while 35 were discharged from various hospitals across the country.

“Sadly, 5 patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing our fatality to 594. Our condolences to the family and friends of those who have lost their loved ones,” said MoH.
