Mombasa COVID-19 cases drop, as disease claims 18 lives countrywide

As COVID 19 cases in the country keep surging, Mombasa County is doing pretty well compared to other counties even as 18 people lost their lives to the disease across the country.

As per the snippet from the ministry of health, Mombasa county stands at number 7 as per the case load of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours.

According to Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Mercy Mwangangi Nairobi was number one recording 349 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Kiambu with 69 cases, Kajiado 35, Machakos 25, Nyeri 23, Garrissa 18, Mombasa 16 and Uasin Gishu 13.

In the coastal counties Tana River recorded four cases, Kilifi two and Taita Taveta one.

Total number of people who tested positive in the last 24 hours were 679 from a sample of 6,690 pushing the total number of positive cases in the country to 28,104.

On the sad note, Mwangangi said that 18 patients lost their lives bringing the total number of people who have died from the disease to 456.

The ministry indicated that 743 people recovered from the disease whereby 685 were from home based care program while 58 were from hospitals. This brings total number of recoveries to 14,610.

Mwangangi reiterated that the ministry has employed mechanisms to make sure that resources donated to the ministry are utilized effectively.

“Donations channeled to us, we have put mechanisms to ensure that each and every donation that comes in to the ministry is actually accounted for,” Dr Mwangangi said.

Meanwhile World Health Organization, regretted that close to 20 million people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, out of which 700,000 have succumbed to the disease globally.

The organization pointed that it has distributed close to 1.8 million test kits to African countries in bid to fight the disease.
