Mombasa COVID-19 cases hit 2,173, even as county reports steady decline

Mombasa County COVID-19 cases reached 2,173 on Tuesday after 19 more people tested positive for the disease.

According to the Ministry of Health, Mombasa County has the second most cases after Nairobi with over 16,000 cases.

While announcing the daily COVID-19 results at Afya House in Nairobi, Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said that Mombasa County COVID-19 cases were steadily declining, even though surges were reported once in a while.

 “Mombasa County has reported a steady decline of virus cases over the recent days and this is attached to behavior change “said Mwangangi.

According to the CAS, the Country has recorded 497 new COVID-19 cases out of 4,171 samples tested raising positive cases toll to 27,425.

15 people have succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours bringing the death toll to 438.

Mwangangi said that among the deaths reported in the last 24 hours most of the patients had underlying diseases, most being diabetic hypertensive and the rest kidney failure.

She further said that 375 people have recovered from the virus bringing the total COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 13,867.

Out of the new recoveries, 315 were under home based care while 57 were discharged from various hospitals.
