Michael Ngumbao Jola, the late uncle of the Ganda ward Member of County Assembly Reuben Katana Mwamure is yet to get justice eight months after he was shot dead by an unknown person in presence of the police and elected leaders two days before the highly contested Ganda ward mini polls.
This according to his family who have accused the DPP and DCI of taking them in round circles.
Jola was shot dead during a fracas between ODM officials and Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa.
The killer(s) who remain unknown are still free months after the incident that saw the MPand her bodyguard Godferry Okuta Otieno arrested and later released on cash bail after the DPP failed to convince the court to on why they should continue being detained.
The family says an inquest file opened by the office of the DCI and the DPP has been inconclusive with the two agencies providing conflicting reports on the progress of the investigations.
Mwamure who won the by-election after garnering 4177 votes said he has been receiving a lot of pressure from the family who have placed their hopes on him to help them get justice for his late uncle.
Speaking at the gravesite, he said the murder of his uncle happened in broad daylight in the presence of many people including MPs, MCAs, and police officers led by the Malindi Deputy OCPD Solomon Kosgei.
“The DCI visited the scene with the Malindi MP and later with the family members after which there have been conflicting reports between the DCI and DPP.” Mwamure said.

”We need to know who killed my uncle, even though we come from a humble background can’t the government protect us like other citizens, we ask the president to take action against the DPP if allegations that he was bribed are true,” he added.
The MCA said he hired a lawyer who wrote to the DCI and the DPP in Nairobi which he personally delivered and ensured it was received but to date, no arrest has been made.
To him, the loss of Jola who was buried away from the family compound as per the Mijikenda traditions on persons who are killed or die from accidents is a big blow to the family.
The burial was attended by ODM party leader Raila Odinga, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, Mombasa’s Ali Hassan Joho, and the top leadership of the party who talked tough and promised justice to the family.
Kingi also said Jola’s murder case would determine whether politicians will continue killing in the next elections or not.

‘If justice for Jola’s family is delayed or denied, then we are courting disaster in 2022,” he said.
All those tough talks have however remained to be ‘funeral talks’ as nothing has happened nearly nine months after the brutal murder.
When Baraka FM visited the home of the deceased on Saturday, they came face to face with the grief and agony of his family.
Jola’s mother is still in pain and she broke into tears moments after the interview began and only managed to say ”I want justice for my son the government should tell us who killed my son.”
The Ganda ward seat was declared vacant after a court annulled the election of Abdulrahman Mohamed Omar who later vied as an independent candidate but lost to Mwamure.
