As the COVID-19 keeps on surging In Mombasa and Nairobi, the government has vehemently warned that there is an emerging trend of house parties a factor that is fuelling the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
In a press conference in Nairobi, chief administrative secretary Rashid Aman said that house parties organized especially by young people in Westlands, Lavington, and Hurlingham are fuelling the spread of the disease.
He warned on the gatherings of politicians during this period flouting health measures insisting that such a tendency is a risky affair that might hamper efforts to contain the spread of the disease.
“As you can see clearly from the numbers above, the spread of the virus is concentrating in some areas. This could be attributed to the information that we have received that groups of young people are organizing house parties in areas of Westlands,Kileleshwa Lavington, and Hurlingham.”Aman said .
He noted that there is a need for Kenyans to avoid holding such parties following the fact that the disease hasn’t subsided yet.
“I want to appeal to our people to take individual responsibility in observing measures advocated by the ministry of health failure to which the disease will be difficult to contain, “Aman said.
On the new infections Aman said that from the total number of 3043 people who were tested in 24 hours,117 tested positive.
In Nairobi 51 tested positive, Mombasa 22 were positive Kajiado (18), Kiambu (6), Nakuru, and Garissa( 5 ), Machakos (3 )Kericho, Busia and Uasin Gishu (2 )and Wajir (1).
Areas affected in Mombasa county include Kisauni with( 8 )positive cases, Changamwe 4, Likoni( 3 ),Jomvu, and Nyali one each.
Aman said that unfortunately, two patients succumbed to the disease bringing a total of those who have succumbed to 119.
He noted that 91 patients have been discharged.
