COVID-19: Three more test positive in Mombasa

Three more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mombasa county.

In a media briefing in Nairobi health cabinet secretary, Mutahi Kagwe said that the three are among five Kenyans who on Friday tested positive for the disease.

Among the five one is from Nairobi while another one is from Nyandarua county.

“504 samples have been tested out of this number some five tested positive for this disease, as per now we have a total of 189 people confirmed positive,”Kagwe added

He said that one case came from mandatory quarantine facilities, while the others were picked up by surveillance teams.

The five are aged between the age of 27 and 58 years old two are male while three are female.

He pointed that on Friday, ten additional people who tested negative were discharged from the Mbagathi COVID-19 isolation facility, totaling the number of people who were discharged after recovering to 22.

According to Kagwe a total, of 2054 contacts have been monitored, 1481 have been cleared and 573 remain in the monitoring program.

A total of 6192 samples have been tested.

The CS vehemently warned the public on the dangers of handling physical money which might spread the disease.

“I encourage you  to use electronic transactions and minimize handling of cash..” He said

Kagwe said that the government’s bid to recruit five thousand health workers is on course and will be done by the county public service board.

Mombasa schools designated as isolation centers

Kagwe reiterated that 100,000 health workers have been given COVID -19 training while 4,000 benefited on E – training based on the same.

The global death toll stood at 97,237 by Friday at 5.00 EAT.
