A Member of Parliament in Tana River County was on Wednesday forced to go back for Coronavirus screening after initially refusing.
Garsen MP, Ali Wario refused to be screened for Coronavirus at the County’s screening point.
According to Tana River County Director of Communications Steve Juma, they received reports that the Garsen Member of Parliament refused to stop and be screened like everyone else entering the County.
“It is reported that the MP, who was coming from either Mombasa or Kilifi — areas that are being singled out by the Health ministry as Covid-19 hostspots had an altercation with officers, saying he saw no reason to be screened when entering “his home”. The matter has been reported to police,” said the County Director of Communications.
After pressure from the public, Garsen MP finally went back to the border point to be screened for Covid-19.
“People power always wins. Mheshimiwa is encouraged to continue obeying government directives on public health, we are in this fight together,” said the County Communications Director.
Tana River County put the screening point for anyone entering the County as one of the measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 which has infected at least 25 people in the country.
Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Nairobi have been mentioned as the hot-spots for the virus in the country given that the 25 cases are spread across these four counties.
Counties in the Coast region have put stringent measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus that has infected more than 400,000 people globally.
