Kilifi, KENYA: Couples in Kilifi are living in fear following the increased number of ‘peeping toms’, locally known as makozimen, in the region.
Residents claim there has been an increase in the number of people watching couples as they sleep at the wee hours of the night.
According to locals, ‘peeping toms’ have now invaded areas of Kisumundogo,Marembo, kwa Mwango and Mabirikani.
“Some peep to watch couples while others just peep to see if the house owners are around, if the owners are not around then they break into the house,” said Juma Said who is one of the community leaders in Kilifi.
Said said they suspect young people suffering from substance abuse disorders to be responsible for these heinous acts.
The peepers also steal valuable items such as phones through the windows.
Locals now want Nyumba Kumi elders to work with residents to deal with the situation.
