Two people have been confirmed dead after a landslide hit Kilungu location of Makueni County in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to Kenya Red Cross officials, the two victims met their death after their houses crumbled on them following a heavy downpour in the area.
Makueni county commissioner Joseph Ole Napeiyan confirmed the incident but failed to divulge more details.
Thirty houses have been marked as being under high risk of being covered by a mudslide in the hilly area.
This comes in just a week after the West Pokot landslide that left 50 people dead while a mudslide in neighboring Taita Taveta county left five families displaced.
On Thursday, the Kenya meteorological department stated that heavy rains would continue till the fourth of December in the western and southern parts of the country.
The department further warned that the rains would most likely trigger mudslides and landslides in hilly areas.
So far, more than 167,000 people have been displaced by the heavy rains that have been blamed on a phenomenon known as the Indian Ocean Dipole.
The Indian Ocean Dipole is an irregular oscillation of temperatures where one side of the Indian Ocean becomes hotter than the other. In this case the Western part of the Indian Ocean which is near the East African coast has been 2 degrees hotter and one of the effects is increased evaporation and increase rain in countries along the East African coast according to experts.
On the other hand, the eastern part of the Indian Ocean which is along states such as Bangladesh, Pakistan and India has been cooler and experiencing reduced rainfall amounts.
