Two arrested over possession of Ivory in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa have arrested two men for allegedly being in possession of elephant trophies.

Ibrahim Samonali and Japhet Muguni Bakari were arrested at Mwembe Tayari area in Mombasa.

“Nine elephant tusks weighing approximately 9 kg were today morning impounded after a Mombasa-bound TAHMEED bus from Kitale was intercepted by Detectives and Kenya Wildlife Service officers acting on information from a member of the public” said Mombasa county commander Johnston  Ipara.

According to police the trophies were concealed in a sack of maize.

The suspects will be arraigned in court on Friday.
