A Mombasa county assembly special committee formed to look into incompetency accusations leveled against Transport and Infrastructure executive Taufiq Balala has cleared him of any wrongdoing.
This follows his infamous impeachment by the Members of County Assembly two weeks ago with the MCA’s accusing him of being incompetent and failing to honor assembly summons to answer questions on how his docket had used more than sh 3 billion allocated to facilitate development projects in the county.
The impeachment motion had been brought forward the Jomvu Kuu Member of County Assembly Athman Shebe.
The special committee composed of MCA’s Faith Boniface( Kipevu) Athman Mwamiri( Likoni),Ali Omar Shariff(Tononoka) Fadhili Mwalimu( Port Reitz) and Milka Moraa ( Nominated ) .
“I was given a chance to explain myself and the county assembly found me innocent on all the allegations against me. The county assembly of #Mombasa has played their role of oversight as required by law. I will continue to respect their role and cooperate with them as they continue to serve the people of #Mombasa.” Balala said after being cleared.
Prior to his impeachment, Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho had termed the impeachment motion against Balala as baseless when he appeared before the Senate committee on devolution.
