Nairobi, KENYA: Media fraternity has been urged to tame charlatans/quacks in their output in a bid to stabilize their credibility in the society.
Speaking during World Radio Day which was celebrated in Nairobi on Wednesday, media council CEO David Omwoyo said that there is need for media to tame such characters in their output, indicating that such scenario degrades media performance in the society following the fact that it is a powerful tool in the society.
Omwoyo warned that mediums which will not take his warning into consideration, might undergo consequences on the same by insisting that charlatans especially in herbal world are becoming detrimental to the society.
“People will start trusting charlatans who come to media houses and say that they do resurrection miracles, they heal diseases like HIV and AIDS and cancer, because of the platform the medium has given such a charlatan, it is the responsibility of journalists to prevent this,” Omwoyo said.
“In two weeks time we are going to issue a stern warning on the same so that culprits might face the law,” he added
Commissioner from commission on administrative of justice , Lucy Ndung’u urged government agencies to fast track releasing of information to the media and public indicating that failure to release any vital information violates not only the constitution but right of information to Kenyans .
“The state shall publicize any important information that is affecting the nation, it is important that every government entity, to proactively disclose information relevant to the public,” Ndung’u said.
