The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has moved the kickoff date of the African Cup of Nation’s (AFCON) to accommodate muslim players fasting for Ramadan.

The decision to move the dates is said to have been taken after Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria requested it to allow players to recover from Ramadan.

“During its meeting held in Cairo on the 26th of January 2019, Caf Emergency Committee decided to validate the new dates of the final tournament of the Total Africa Cup of Nations – Egypt 2019 as requested by the host country in order to start on the 21st of June 2019 until the 19th of July 2019,” CAF told BBC.

The competition will now kickoff on 21st June then end on the 19th of July, instead of the initially scheduled 14th June to 13th July period .
