Two more arrested over Kilifi disco matanga violence

Kilifi, KENYA: Two more suspects have been arrested in Kilifi County in connection with the violence that broke out in a Disco Matanga on Friday 4th January in Shariani that saw a chief, sub-chief and three police officers injured.

The arrests come barely after the cabinet secretary for Interior and Coordination Fred Matiang’I visited the chief who has been identified as David Kahindi at Jocham hospital where he has been receiving treatment.

This brings to 15 the total number of suspects arrested after being linked to the violence.

According to Kilifi County police Commander Fredrick Ochieng, 13 suspects were arrested on the day the Chief and police officers were assaulted while the two were arrested on Wednesday.

The suspects who have been identified as Baraka Magunda (53) and Jackson Juma (55 years) will be arraigned at the Shanzu law court where they will be charged with attempted murder of a chief and obstruction of police officers in the due execution of lawful duty.

‘This is a warning to other Disco Matanga organizers that they will have no room to operate in Kilifi County’warned Ochieng.

Police in Kilifi County has said that security personnel in the County will step up operations on disco matanga until the people of Kilifi come to respect for the rule of law.
