Nairobi, KENYA: Teachers service commission has instructed headteachers across the country to facilitate the opening of schools.

In a media briefing in Nairobi, chairperson of TSC Lydia Nzomo said that the head teachers must facilitate the opening of schools amid a call by Kenya National Union of Teachers to their members to abscond duties following a tussle between the union and their employer the TSC.

Nzomo urged all teachers across the county to attend to their duties as scheduled and as per 2019 education calendar.

“Headteachers to promptly assign teachers, in case of non-attendance, by those employed to attend learning,” Nzomo said

The TSC pointed that the teachers strike violates the children’s rights to access education and KNUT should not use the children as a shield to achieve their goals.

The teachers strike has prompted court battles between KNUT and TSC after the committee instituted by the ministry of labor to flank talks failed in reaching a truce between the warring factions.

In a quick rejoinder, the education CS vowed that all schools across the country will be opened as scheduled by the government.
