Mombasa, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to launch first ever Coast Guard to protect the marine conservation in the Country.
Addressing Journalists at State House in Mombasa, state spokesperson Kanze Dena said president Kenyatta will tour Mombasa on Monday to launch first ever Coast Guard.
The guards will secure Kenya waters, prevent marine pollution, maintain Ocean sanitation and also prosecute those who will go against the marine laws.
“The guards will provide security to Kenya ports Authority and rescue marine users involved in accidents including fishermen,” said Dena.
The guards are also expected to protect one hundred million dollars lost annually due to unreported and unregulated fishing in its territorial waters.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday appointed Brigadier Vincent Naisho Loonena as Director General of Coast Guard service.
State house spokesperson further said the Kenya government has signed a trade agreement with the Chinese nation.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed during the recent visit of President Uhuru Kenyatta to China.
Kenya business people selling fruits and vegetables will soon export their products to China following trade the agreement signed by president Kenyatta.
The fruits to be imported to China include Macadamia and avocado.
