A section of Mombasa residents have opposed the creation of a Prime Minister post in the proposed referendum.

Speaking to Baraka FM, residents claim that the post will be a burden to the economy considering the huge wage bill.

A resident, Eliud Musyoki who is a businessman opposed the post of a prime minister saying politicians only want to create positions that benefit them.

“This post is a way of creating job opportunities for politicians. They just want to benefit themselves” He lamented.

Benjamin Mutua who is a fruit vendor in Mombasa, says the burden is already heavy for Kenyans hence no need to create more positions.

“When a prime minister is appointed, he or she will need a salary and it’s common mwananchi who will be oppressed through paying higher taxes.” Said Mutua.

However, to Mtenzi Mwanzegere, a juakali artisan, the positions of Women Representatives and senators should be abolished.

“We have been electing senators, MCA’s and Women representatives but we don’t see them doing anything in the county. Those posts should be abolished.”  He stated.
