Kilifi, KENYA: A primary school teacher has been arrested in Kilifi town over allegations of defiling two of his students.

Stanlus Kattam who has been on the run is a teacher at Kundeni Primary in Magarini Sub-county.

According to police officers, Kattam is suspected to have defiled the students in a thicket near the school four weeks ago before he went into hiding.

The Magarini sub-county education department had suspended the teacher after medical tests confirmed that the said students had been defiled.

According to the Magarini Sub-county education head John Githinji, Kattam is suspected to have held the students hostage for over 8 hours inside the thicket.

“We are suspecting that this is not the only case he has been involved in, however, we are still conducting more investigations into the incident,” Githinji told Baraka FM last month.

That prompted police in the sub-county to issue an arrest warrant for the teacher who had by the time gone into hiding.

Confirming the arrest Magarini police boss Gerald Barasa said that the suspect is being detained at the Malindi Police station awaiting arraignment in court.

This comes just a few hours after the Kilifi DCI boss Magu Mtundika said stern action would be taken against a police officer attached to Kijipwa police station who fled after allegedly defiling a 13-year girl who had reported being defiled by two other men.

The said police officer is still on the run.
