Nairobi, KENYA: Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s fate is set to be decided on Friday 12th after appearing in court on Monday.

Governor Obado had appeared in court alongside his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and Caspel Obiero, a clerk at the Migori County Assembly over the death of slain Rongo university student Sharon Otieno.

Governor Obado’s request to be released on bail will be decided on the same Friday 12th after he launched fresh attempts to be freed on bail on grounds that his health had deteriorated while in custody.

Justice Jessie Lesiit had earlier suspended the application for bail last month until witness statements and other evidence were provided to all parties.

“The application cannot be determined before the witness statements and other evidence are made available to all the parties. That is the only way that this court can fully exercise its discretion, applying the factors for consideration in determining whether or not any compelling reason exists to deny bail. At this stage I am disallowing the application,” Justice Jessie Lesiit had stated in her ruling.

Last Friday Governor Obado filed a fresh application to have his bail reviewed on grounds of health concern after the Governor fell ill on Wednesday 3rd October while on remand. The governor was admitted in Kenyatta National Hospital private wing where he received treatment under security watch.
